Christmas is supposed to be Jesus’ birthday. I said “supposed to be” because no one really knows exactly when Jesus was born. The scholars in the 4th century did some calculations and decided December 25 to be Jesus’ birthday.

For Christians, “when (the date)” Jesus was born is not that important but “why” He was born is really important.
クリスチャンにとって、キリストが「『いつ』生まれたのか」はそこまで重要ではありません。「『なぜ』キリストが生まれたのか」が重要なのです。

Before Jesus was born, prophets prophesized that the Savior will be born to save the Isrealites from all troubles. Those prophecies were found physically and were proved by archeologists that they existed before Jesus’ birth, and the contents of the prophecies include details like Jesus will be born from a woman that has never had a sexual experience with a man (Isaiah 7:14), Jesus will be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), Jesus will be crucified on a cross (Psalm 22), and Jesus will be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12-13). There are actually more than 300 prophecies about Jesus, and the probability of someone else fulfilling them is basically zero. If you can’t believe it, you should write 300 facts about yourself and see if there’s someone else that meets those facts.

Now, around the time Jesus was born, Israelites were under the Roman rule and they had been oppressed by other people for a long time, so they had always been waiting for a powerful king, like King David, to save them from others. When they found out that “a savior” will be born, they thought that a “powerful king” will be born.
キリストが生まれた当時、イスラエルの民はローマに支配されていて、その前もずっと他の人たちに支配されていたことがあったので、過去にいた「ダビデ王」のような強い王によって助けられることをずっと願っていました。「救い主」が生まれるという予言を聞いた時、彼らは「強い王」が生まれるのだと期待しました。

However, Jesus was born in a manger at a stable and not in a big bed at a palace, He grew up as a son of a carpenter and not as a son of a national leader, and His physical features were probably average and did not seem to be a “powerful king”, so many Israelites didn’t believe that He was “the Savior”.
しかし、キリストは宮殿の高価なベッドではなく馬小屋の飼い葉おけで生まれ、国のリーダーの息子ではなく大工の息子として育ち、肉体的特徴もおそらく平均的で「強い王」としては見えなかったので、多くのイスラエルの民は彼が「救い主」だとは信じませんでした。

The Bible says that God’s plans are far beyond our understanding (Job 11, Isaiha 55), He is the God of the broken (Psalm 34:18), and He is a friend of the weak (Isaiah 40:29). God’s way of showing “strength”, “love”, or “hope” can be different from what many people in the world think, and maybe God wanted to show us that He is near to us by Christ not being the son of an earthly king.
聖書には「神の御心（計画）は人間の理解を超える」（ヨブ記11, イザヤ書55）、「神は心が砕かれた者たちの神である」（詩編34:18）、「神は弱い者の友である」（イザヤ書40:29)ということも書かれています。神の「力」、「愛」、「希望」の示し方はこの世の多くの人たちが思っているものと違うのかもしれませんし、もしかしたら神は、キリストがこの世的な王の息子として生まれないことによって、「すぐそばにいる存在」ということを示したかったのではないでしょうか？

God loves you, not like the way this world loves but the way the Creator of the universe loves. God has a hope for your future, not like the hope of this world but the hope that your Creator has. God can strengthen you, maybe not a physical strength but the spiritual strength that can help you overcome any stress or fear including the fear of death.
神はあなたを愛しています。この世的な人間的な愛ではなく、この全宇宙を創られた方としてあなたを愛しています。神はあなたの未来に希望を持っています。この世的な人間的な希望ではなく、この全宇宙とあなたを創られた方としての希望です。神はあなたを力づけることができます。物理的な力ではなくて、どのようなストレスや恐怖、死の恐怖さえも乗り越えることが出来る霊的・精神的な力です。
